Lori Putnam Painting Demo

Lori Putnam Painting Demonstration

Tuesday Night, October 7, 2014

6:30pm to 9pm

Please join us at Carmel Visual Arts for an exciting evening with artist Lori Putnam. Lori will be doing a 2-hour oil painting demonstration on Tuesday, October 7, the evening before her sold-out painting workshop. The doors open at 6:30 for a wine and cheese reception, and then her demo will begin at 7pm.

Lori Putnam’s artistic development truly began following an intensive, 8-month period of self-study in Italy in 2008. The artist’s rapid growth and style continued to evolve for the next several years, due largely to the influence and encouragement from artist friends Quang Ho and Scott Christensen. Recently, five of the nation’s top magazines have taken notice, spotlighting her work and successful career. Now considered one of the nation’s most prominent and sought-after Contemporary Impressionists, the artist participates in the nation’s top plein air invitationals. She has received plein air awards in Colorado, California, Wyoming, Florida, Georgia, and Ireland and is in the permanent collection at The Academy Art Museum in Easton Maryland. Putnam’s studio work has also received many awards, the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Portrait Society of America, and the Oil Painters of America among them. Putnam’s paintings, which border on abstraction, are recognized for their energetic brushwork, masterful use of color, and intelligent design. She has been chosen as a Faculty Demonstrator for the prestigious Plein air Convention for the past three years, where she energetically shared her philosophy with its more than 700 attendees each year.

The artist paints landscapes and still life, as well as the figure and portraits. When asked about subject matter, Putnam states, “It is much less about the actual subject itself, and more about color harmonies, rhythms, patterns, and shapes.” While she may use photographs as reference material, she prefers working from life, and travels extensively painting sketches to use for larger paintings at her studio in Charlotte Tennessee.
