The California Art Club and the Carmel Visual Arts will present the exhibition Point Lobos and Beyond at the Carmel gallery from October 19 to November 30, 2018. The exhibition opens with a reception with the participating artists on Saturday, October 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The more than 30 works selected for inclusion in this display have been created by many of the state’s premier contemporary-traditional artists who are members of the historic California Art Club and its chapters in Monterey County and surrounding area. The paintings spotlight Point Lobos, considered the “crown jewel” of the Golden State’s 280 state parks, as well as a multitude of stunning vistas in the environs. The featured imagery defines this pristine stretch of coastline along the Pacific Ocean, from the Bixby Creek Bridge in Big Sur to the Carmel Dunes and Pacific Grove’s iconic Lover’s Point Park. All of the works capture fleeting moments of natural lighting across scenic landscapes – a distinctive Impressionistic style of painting influenced by the Club’s early founders more than a century ago.
The participating artists are Tomiko Bailey, Bobbie Belvel, Nanette Biers, Maria Boisvert, Rich Brimer, John Burton, Inna Cherneykina, Rhonda Egan, Bryce Elischer, Mark Farina, Catherine Fasciato, Tatyana Fogarty, Terri Ford, Clark Louis Gussin, Scott Hamill, Coraly Hanson, Vivian Healy, Maggie Renner Hellmann, Lucinda Johnson, Sibyl Johnson, Laurie Kersey, Rolf Lygren, Will Maller, Mark Monsarrat, Robert Porter, Jesse Powell, Barbara Reinertson, Julia Munger Seelos, Marte Thompson, Marti Walker, Cindy Wilbur, Tonya Zenin.
The Carmel Visual Arts Gallery is located at 3694 The Barnyard, in Carmel, Calif. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
